Spend Friday evening, October 1 on the beautiful Science Museum of Long Island grounds for Outdoor Movie Night, featuring Microplastic Madness, an award-winning documentary film about 56 5th grade students from P.S. 15 in Red Hook, Brooklyn who deep dive into the root causes of plastic pollution. Taking on the roles of citizen scientists and community advocates, they collect and use their own local data to inform policy by testifying and rallying at City Hall. Then they turned their focus back to school, taking action in their cafeteria to eliminate all single-use plastic!

With stop-motion animation, heartfelt kid commentary, and interviews of experts and renowned scientists who are engaged in the most cutting edge research on the harmful effects of microplastics, this alarming, yet charming narrative, conveys an urgent message we can’t ignore.

This is the year We Break Free from Plastics! What can you do to reduce plastic usage and waste in your home, school and community? The Film Screening will start at 6:30. Gates open at 5:30 with a Beyond Plastics science fair and activities. Q & A with film’s education director. Educators, Parents, Kids, Friends & Neighbors - there is something for everyone. Come be inspired!

Outdoor Movie Night is co-produced by Transition Town Port Washington and the Science Museum of Long Island, 1526 N. Plandome Road, Manhasset, NY

Admission: $10 per adult, 18 & Under and PWSD Teachers and Personnel come FREE.

Bring lawn chairs, blankets, snacks and beverages (no single use plastics, please!). Dress for a fall evening at the Preserve.
