Join Transition Town Port Washington’s citizen scientists for a fun-filled day of exploring the amazing world of pond life at Baxter’s Pond.
This is a unique event where we will use dip nets to explore the wild world of invertebrates, fish, frogs, and other animals in the water! With the help of our experts, we will then identify the invertebrates to taxonomic group. The assemblage of invertebrates that we collect will tell us about the long-term health of the pond.
After the collection of pond invertebrates, we will go on a nature walk beside the Baxter’s Pond stream and through the adjacent forest and swamp guided by local naturalist David Jakim.
The following day June 4, at Harborfest, we will examine these creatures and the world they live in and return them to the pond at the end of the day.
This is a great opportunity for children and their families to observe and learn about pond life, water quality, the environment, and the importance of taking care of our land and water.
Attendees should wear water resistant boots or shoes that can get muddy!
Don't miss out on this exciting and educational event! Meet us at the flagpole at noon.
Co-sponsored by the Baxter’s Pond Foundation.
